Linguistic analysis

This action presents research results related to linguistic practices and language awareness of the minorities under consideration. these results are based (along others) on corresponding questionnaires and interviewing strategies which will include constant reference towards aspects of traditions and actual patterns related to language use. In addition, aspects of linguistic practice will be derived from participant observation during fieldwork. Reflexes of ethnicity and sociocultural features encapsulated in a given language will be referred to selectively with the help of competent native speakers and specialized linguists who will serve as consultants in this domain. This holds especially for Assyrian, Kurdish, Ezdîkî/Yezidi, Greek, Lomavren, but also for those refugee minorities that have been in constant contact with Armenian traditions since medieval times (Armenian Tatis and Udis). Lexical lists will be exploited to judge upon semantic domains of borrowing (from Armenian), and other indicators of language contact as in given in text recordings will be classified and evaluated against the categories elaborated.
